Wisdom Circle Invitation Menstruation as a Rite of Passage: Restoring Sacredness in our Relationship to our Blood

This month in our Wisdom Circle we will continue our journey into rites of passage by exploring our own relationship and lived experiences with menstruation. Our initial conversations about menstruation have traversed a wide range of important sub-topics including mother-daughter dynamics, shame (personal and societal), cultural attitudes and norms that impact our relationship to our blood, physiology, women’s medicine, mythology, and a desire to be hold space for ourselves and the wider community to forge a more sacred and empowering relationship with menstruation.

We’ll bring this inquiry into our sacred space with a fluid combination of embodiment practice, personal reflection, and group sharing. Questions to ponder in the days leading up to our gathering include:

• What is your relationship to your blood?
• Are there feelings of shame associated with your experience of menstruation?
• How do you connect with yourself and honor your felt experience during the various phases of your cycle?
• How can we bring an embodied sense of sacredness to our personal and societal experiences of menstruation?

After a sharing circle, we will experience a Spiral Ceremony, led by Wiktoria.  This ritual will honor the mystery of cyclicity, which is the power to create and destroy, and to transform life within our wombs.  We are indeed initiated into this power with our first menstruation!

Women in all phases of the cycle of life are warmly invited to participate.

What to wear:  Something red, or something that represents and honors the current phase of your menstrual experience.

Agreements:  Please review the Wisdom Circle Agreements before we gather.  There will be an opportunity at the beginning of the circle to comment, ask questions, recommend changes or additions, or ask for anything you need to feel welcome in the circle.

This circle will be co-facilitated by Jennifer, Marta, Michelle, and Wiktoria.
